The MCX Virtus Patrol (often designated by its 16-inch barrel configuration) is the second generation of SIG Sauer's highly modular MCX mission-configurable weapon system. Built to meet the demands of elite special operations units, the Virtus focuses on increased accuracy, durability, and modularity over the original legacy MCX.
Core Engineering Features
Short-Stroke Gas Piston System: The Virtus utilizes a specialized gas piston system that keeps the action clean and cool. Unlike a standard AR-15, the recoil springs are located above the bolt carrier group within the upper receiver, eliminating the need for a buffer tube and allowing for a variety of folding stock options.
Cold Hammer-Forged "Heavy" Profile Barrel: The Virtus features a significantly thicker barrel profile than the original MCX to improve heat dissipation and maintain accuracy during high-volume strings of fire.
Modular Caliber Conversion: The platform is designed for rapid barrel and caliber changes. By swapping the barrel and bolt head, the operator can transition between 5.56 NATO and .300 AAC Blackout in the field.
